Credit Bureaus

You are allowed by law, one free credit report per year, per credit bureau. That means you can get three free credit reports per year. If you stagger them every four months, you will have a pretty good idea of the information about you that is available to your employer, your potential employer, anyone from whom you apply for credit (banks, mortgage lenders), and your potential landlord.

It is best for you to contact the bureaus directly without going through a link on somebody else’s site. Think about it. Do go over the report carefully to make sure there is nothing on it that shouldn’t be there. The reports from all three will not necessarily be identical, but make sure the credit history reflected in them is actually yours. Also check and see who’s been looking at your credit.
